Arrival in Moshi

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be greeted and transferred to the hotel for overnight accommodation. Your head guide will conduct a briefing, gear check, and assist with equipment rental needs.

Day 1: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

You will commence from Moshi, in a scenic three-hour drive leading to the Londorossi gate, where permits will be obtained, amidst the lively preparations of various crews. You will start trekking through enchanting rainforest scenery, the path, though muddy and slippery at lower elevations, offers an immersive introduction to local flora and fauna.

Habitat: Montane Forest

[Elevation: 9,137 ft ∼ 2,785 m, and Trekking time: 3 to 4 hours].

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira I Camp

In the morning, you will ascend from the rainforest after a restful night, the journey will progress towards the Shira Plateau, leaving the forest canopy behind. The trail will offer wide vistas, and gradually climb to the plateau’s rim as temperatures begin to cool.

Habitat: Moorland

[Elevation: 11,841 ft ∼ 3,610 m, and Trekking time: 5 to 6 hours].

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

During this day, you will set out from Shira 1 Camp and trek towards the second high-altitude camp, Shira 2 Camp. This trek offers stunning views of the African savannah, Kilimanjaro’s unique flora, and the surrounding area. Weather permitting, Shira 2 Camp provides the best opportunity on the trip to see Mount Meru, the fifth summit of Africa and second-highest in Tanzania.

Along the way, your guide will offer the option to ascend Cathedral Peak (3,872 m/12,703 ft), one of the highest points of the extinct Shira volcano. Reaching the summit of Cathedral Peak on a clear day offers breathtaking views down into the valley, a sight our experienced team particularly cherishes. Upon arrival at Shira 2 Camp, you will have lunch, followed by a two-hour rest, after which everyone will embark on an acclimatization hike towards Lava Tower Camp, featuring a 300 m.

Habitat: Moorland

[Elevation: 12,631 ft ∼ 3850 m, and Trekking time: 3 to 4 hours].

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower via Barranco Camp

In the morning, you will ascend to Lava Tower and then, descend to Barranco Camp. This leg will serve a crucial role in acclimatization as you trek from Shira Plateau towards the Lava Tower, with glimpses of the “Shark’s Tooth”, the route descends towards Barranco Camp via the Southern Circuit.

Habitat: Semi-Desert

[Elevation: 13,077 ft ∼ 3,986 m, and Trekking time: 5 to 7 hours].

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

After morning breakfast, you will embark, on the trail leading to the challenging Barranco Wall, showcasing the prowess of the climbing crew. You will pass through Karanga Valley, where the route converges with the Mweka Trail, offering impressive views along the way.

Habitat: Alpine-Desert

[Elevation: 13,253 ft ∼ 4,034 m, and Trekking time: 4 to 5 hours].

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

In the morning, you will continue with the trek towards Barafu Camp. Climbers conclude the South Circuit, treated to panoramic vistas of the summit. You will have preparations underway for the summit night, as well as have an early dinner and a rest.

Habitat: Alpine-Desert

[Elevation: 15,295 ft ∼ 4,662 m, and Trekking time: 4 to 5 hours].

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Summit, then to Millennium Camp

You will begin before dawn, and embark on the mentally and physically demanding ascent towards the summit, navigating through glaciers and scree. You will be greeted by a spectacular sunrise at Stella Point where, the journey will culminate at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Following celebrations and reflection, then you will descend towards Millennium Camp.

Habitat: Stone Scene & Ice-Capped 

[Elevation: 19,341 ft ∼ 5895 m, and Trekking time: 5 to 7 hours].

Day 8: Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi

Descending to Mweka Gate, you will receive summit certificates before bidding farewell to their dedicated crew. Then, a vehicle will transfer you to Moshi and conclude the journey, where a warm shower, dinner, and well-deserved celebrations will be awaiting you at the hotel.

Overnight at a lodge or hotel in Moshi.

Departure from Moshi

Depending on your flight time, our representative will arrive at the hotel to transfer you to the airport and have our farewell.  This will mark the end of the Mount Kilimanjaro trek. Good luck!

For the Arrival day (pre-hiking) and Departure day (post-hiking), you have the option to decide whether you would like us to arrange accommodation in Moshi and include it in the total Tour budget, or if you prefer to book it yourself and be excluded from the total Tour  budget. “You will let us know”.
